The Greatest Youth Rally in History. Silent b&w film, with color segments about the Memorial Day Rally in Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday, May 30, 1945. The film was probably distributed during the summer of 1945. From Collection 285, Papers of Torrey Johnson, film F4 (24:02 minutes).

Description: Segment begins with exterior shots of Soldier Field, then includes scenes of the baseball games that preceded the rally, including one between Wheaton College and the Glenview Naval Air cadets (Adler Planetarium in the background); Harry Otway directing the band in practice inside Soldier Field, the members of the choir arriving and practicing, and then several scenes of crowds pouring in Soldier Field, with the skyline of 1945 Chicago in the background.

J. Bittikofer directing the choir, shots of the band, Merrill Dunlop at the piano, Doug Fisher at the organ, soloist Pruth McFarlin, more scenes of the crowd.

Taylor, Charles Templeton, Bob Cook, George Beverly Shea, Peter Deyneka, Merrill Dunlop and T.J. Bittikofer, among others; scenes of patriotic display, including raising the flag, a formation of 400 nurses in the form a cross marching across the field and then filing into the stands, the Memorial Day observation performed by teams from local high schools; Merrill Dunlop leading the percussion section of the band in a number.
